Historical sightseeing of Malaysia

Malaysia is a multi-ethnic country which has passed through a long history of colonization by the Europeans. There are many interesting historical places associated with its erstwhile history. Thousands of tourists come here to enjoy the scenic beauty painted by the panoramic features of the land.  Apart from its majestic beauty seen in the sprawling landscape, historical sightseeing also forms a main part of Malaysian tourism. Some of the important historical sites are listed below:

Melaka Sultanate Palace Museummhs-1
It is a renovated palace of the Malacca's sultans located in Malacca which symbolizes the history of Malaccan region. The visitors can see many a whole thing in this museum such as the region's collection of artifacts, prints, photographs, and different art works created by the artisans in the olden days of Melaka period. The three storey palace museum has three galleries with eight chambers displaying the royal weaponries, bands, halls and the royal gifts. The museum was opened to public in July 1986 and has become a popular place since then. It is an ideal place for the students if they are on an educational excursion.

Saint Paul Church in Malacca
Built by the Portuguese in 1521, Saint Paul Church is located on top of the Saint Paul's hill being one of the five churches set up by the Portuguese in the hill. The remnants of the church still attribute the beauty of the heyday and it is visited by many tourists regularly.

The A Formosa Fortressmhs-2
The A Formosa Fortress - meaning "the famous" in Portuguese was built by the Portuguese during 1500's, which has been associated with the major part of the Malaysian history and culture witnessing a lot of changes and falling into the hands of many foreign evaders during the early eras. Here, one can discover the testimonial ruins of the ancient structures and can pass through the pages of true Malaysian history.

The Stadthuys
The Stadthuys which was built in the year 1650 served as the official residence of the Dutch governors and other officers. Being made in Dutch architecture designs, it wears a different look as compared to other Malaysian buildings. The place has now become an Ethnography Museum and is open for public viewings displaying traditional bridal outfits, the remains of the ancient Malaccan items and artifacts, and other historical materials.

Makam Mahsuri, Lankawaimhs-3
Makam Mahsuri has now become a duty free paradise pitted against the famous Puket of Thiland. It is a place of a famous legend associated with the great beauty Masuria who lived during the time Sultan Abdullah Mukkaram Shah II in 1762 and 1850.She was accused of being unfaithful to her husband by her own father in law and was sentenced to death. She pleaded her innocence in vain and on the day she was killed her blood flowed white proving her purity and she cursed the island for seven generation of misery. This became true with crops failing, widespread famine and misery prevailed.

Bukit China
Outside China, Bukit China located in the northeast part of Malacca is the oldest and largest Chinese cemetery with a number of graves nearly 12500 some of which even goes back to the time of 17th century. Bukit China holds the fascination of many historians and finds itself a place in the learning of Malaysian history.

Kampung Kling Mosquemhs-4
This ancient mosque in Malacca was built in 18th century by the Indian Muslims giving a Sumatran design with a wooden roof of three-tier. It is one of the well known historical sites in Malaysia and is a famous destination for many tourists.

Cheng Hoon Teng
The oldest Buddhist temple in Malaysia, Cheng Hoon Teng is situated in Jalan, Tokong Malacca. The temple spans in an area of 4,600 square meters featuring many prayer halls including a small prayer quarters which was added later. It also has a seven meter long flag pole that is the most remarkable feature of the place. Many tourists and travelers have visited the place and were very much astound with its remarkable and delightful features.

Gua Niah, Miri Sarawakmhs-5
It is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world with human existence in this area dating back as early as 40,000 years. The most extraordinary finding is a human skull probably dating around 38,000 years. It is a National reserved Park that has a huge cave complex with the longest underwater caves.

Istana Lama Sri Meranti, Negri Sembilan
It is the last timber structure in the country which was by the British in 1875 and rebuilt in 1905. Adopting Minangkabau architure, the four storey structure made from cengal and the rare kayu belian (iron wood) does not have even a single nail. Instead, the wooden planks are held using hard wood dowel and rivets. The place is now a royal museum and 13 km from Kuala Pilah.

Aside from the above mentioned historical sites, there are others that are worth seeing such as Datarn Merdeka of Kuala Lumpur, Fort Cornwallis of Penang, Lembah Bujang in Kedah, Batu Bersurat of Terengganu and Kota Baru.
