Abu Dhabi, the capital sheikdom of the United Arab Emirates and the largest among the sheikdoms, owes for over 80% of the Islamic nation’s land mass with an impressive coastline that stretches over 700 km. Situated on the north-eastern part of the Persian Gulf in the Arabian Peninsula, Abu Dhabi is just 250 metres from the mainland.
Desert covers about 70% of Abu Dhabi’s terrain. Situated on a low-lying island with landscaped gardens, parks and tree-lined avenues and roads, Abu Dhabi’s is the home to picturesque beauty. The beauty of this capital city of UAE is enhanced by the presence of dazzling water of Arabian Gulf surrounding it.
The Hajar Mountains located in the east offer a majestic touch to Al Ain, the second city of Abhu Dhabi Emirate. The Hajar Mountain had been a source of copper that was traded by the tribes who occupied this desert before four thousand years.
Yet another feature which adds a distinct touch to the geography of the emirates is Liwa oasis, which lies at the centre of Al Dharfa region. This area is rich in lush greenery and water resources. Located at two and half hour drive from Abu Dhabi, the place is the abode to some spectacular sand dunes.
The Abu Dhabi Corniche is a unique feature of this Emirates city that offers the tourists an opportunity to enjoy the astonishing coastline of the city while walking or cycling.
Abu Dhabi is connected to the mainland via two main bridges, Maqta and Mussafah, while the construction of other ones are under progress.
Climate
Abu Dhabi is a city which has sunshine and blue skies throughout the year. You can experience an extremely hot, humid climate with temperatures soaring to above 40°C from April to September. During this period, the city is very much prone to unpredictable sandstorms.
The city experiences a comparatively cooler climate from October to March, with chances of dense fog on some days. January and February are the coolest months of the year while rainfall is almost non-existent in the city.
In short, the geography of this UAE capital is rich in exquisite historical natural resources and is the abode to the ravishing beauty of dazzling water and golden sand.
