Situated to the northeast of the UAE, on the Persian Gulf, Dubai is the second largest of the sheikdoms of the Emirates. It has an urban area of 3885 sq km, while the city is just 35 sq km. But the city gets a larger look due to the presence of the astonishing man-made islands – the three Plans, the Waterfront, the Universe, the World, Dubailand as well as the other constructions taking place in the desert.
| The Creek of Dubai is a fascinating feature of Dubai. Dubai is divided into two halves by this Creek that has been formed naturally from a 9.5 mile inlet situated on Persian Gulf. The northern part is known as Deira, while the southern part of the creek is the Burj Dubai, the destination of tourist and residential constructions. Dubai is the home to numerous waterholes and gorges which speckle at the base of the Al Hajar mountains. The southern part of Dubai, known popularly as The Empty Quarter, is a desert covered by huge sand dunes. |

Talking about the seismic stability, Dubai is quite stable with the closest seismic fault line, Zagros Fault, located 200 km away from this city. The sandy desert surrounding the city offers enormous support to the date palms and wild grasses. The desert hyacinths can be seen in the sabkha plains, present on the eastern side of the city, while you can see the ghaf and acacia trees growing in the flat plains, near to Western Al Hajar mountains.
Climate
Dubai, the most expensive tourist destination, has a warm, sunny weather, throughout the year – the major reason being the passage of Tropic of Cancer through the Emirates. While the mainland experiences a temperature of about 25°C during the winter, the coastal regions of Dubai will have an average temperature of 12-15°C during the daytime in winters. The nights are quite cool, with the coastal regions experiencing an average humidity of 50-60%.
The temperature rises to more than 40°C during summers, leaving the humidity to 90% in the coastal areas. The rains are very less and are in form of short gushes with infrequent thunderstorms.
Population
Dubai has the second largest population in the Emirates with 1.8 million, out of which 75% are males. Dubai is a cosmopolitan city with just 5% of the Emiratis. A major portion of the expatriates are Indians who are present in the city for professional positions as well as for other positions with cheaper labour.
There are quite a few Iranians also. The increase in the demand of workers is majorly in the tourism sector paving way for the people from China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines, settling down in the UAE sheikdom as permanent residents.
The unique and amazing geographical location of Dubai offers the opportunity to enjoy a strategic position and offers it connection to all the local Gulf States, as well as to East Africa and South Asia. The extremely long coastline filled with beautiful white sandy beaches form ideal destinations to spend your vacation.
