Exploring the geographical facts of Ras Al Khaimah

 

Ras Al Khaimah is a great destination in the UAE for the assorted landscapes that it offers. It is among the most beautiful Emirates of the UAE. The interesting terrain and boundaries alongside is accountable for offering such attractiveness to this area. Ras al-Khaimah is the capital of the Emirates and is located right at the center of the Emirates. It occupies over 2% land area of the UAE. Ras Al Khaimah resembles a triangular tent top and thus derives its name which translates to ‘the top of the tent’.

Ras Al Khaimah is the fourth largest emirate in the federation and is more often referred as one of the Northern Emirates as it is situated on the northernmost corner of the UAE. This country with a land area of 1,700 square km is surrounded on the north and south by the emirates of Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah, Sharjah, and the Sultanate of Oman. There is also a huge commune on the Southeast of UAE and small islands like Greater and Lesser Tunb scattered around. Ras Al Khaimah lies 25°47′N and 55°57′E.

Gulf with water's edge stretching to 65 kms. On the eastern side is the magnanimous rocky Ru’us Al Jibal mountain range formed 70,000 million years back. In Ras Al Khaimah the mountain range touches the elevation of 1200m. On the southeast it shares the boundary with Oman. Rest of this Emirate is a combination of fertile lands, palm garden and desert sand that covers the land in different hue and colour.

The temperature during the summer reaches to more than 40°C with high humidity. The winters are more pleasant and dry. The varied geographical diversity bestows it with a rich culture. The population of Ras Al Khaimah is around 300,000. The official language of the place is Arabic though English is also widely spoken for business purpose.

Ras Al Khaimah other than offering a great terrain, is also blessed with gas reserves amounting to 33.96m cu metres and oil reserves of 0.4% of the UAE’s total reserves. It also has the major rock quarry in the Gulf with best class deposits of limestone and clay. These deposits have been supporting the flourishing cement and ceramics industries of the UAE, with Ras Al Khaimah being the largest producer of cement and ceramics of the UAE. For the prosperity of industry in the region, the RAK Free Trade Zone was opened in May 2000. As RAK is constringed on the oil resource, the outlook is to develop a robust industry and lifestyle economy here.

Ras Al Khaimah is well connected with Oman and other parts of the UAE through three highways. One highway followed till Dubai and Abu Dhabi while other heads towards Oman. The Emirates Road touches the emirates of Umm Al-Quwain, Ajman, and Sharjah leading to Dubai. Ras Al Khaimah seaport is close to Bandar Abbas in Iran. A spaceport is also coming up to offer suborbital tourism.

The natural beauty of Ras Al Khaimah is alluring, giving a boost to tourism and boasting many luxurious resorts. Desert setting, mountains, beautiful beaches, and stunning lagoons are making it a much preferred location for resort vacation.
