Climate of Malaysia

mc1The climate of Malaysia is normally hot and humid all through the year round as it sits near the equator with the average temperature of 27 °C and 250 cm of average rainfall. Daytime temperatures rise above 30°C year-round and night-time temperatures seldom drop below 20°C (68°F). The country’s two main regions known as Peninsula and the East are characterized by different climates. The climate of Peninsula is directly affected by wind from the mainland unlike the East region which is influenced by the maritime weather. Two monsoon winds called Southwest Monsoon and the Northeast Monsoon blow from late May to September and from November to March respectively. The Northeast Monsoon brings in more rainfall compared to the Southwest Monsoon which originates from China and the north Pacific.

The mountain ranges throughout Malaysia also affect the climate of Malaysia giving rise to different climatic conditions which can be divided for different places as highlands, the lowlands, and coastal regions. With temperatures wavering between 23 °C and 32 °C and a rainfall from 10 centimetres to 30 centimetres, the coastal areas have sunny climate and the lowlands also have the similar temperature but with more distinctive rainfall pattern and very high humidity levels. As for the highlands, they are characterized by cooler and wetter climate featuring a greater temperature variation with large amount of clouds and humidity levels which hardly dip below 75%. Kuching of Sarawak is the wettest place in Malaysia with an average rainfall of 4,128 mm with 247 days of rain a year. The driest place is in Chuping, Perlis with average rainfall of only 1,746 mm in a year.

Capital, Kuala Lumpur becomes wettest from March to April and September to November. The bestmc3 time to visit Malaysia for dry weather normally comes around in June and July for the east coast, January and February for the west coast, April for Sabah and June to July for Sarawak. For the required clothing, it is sensible to use lightweight, loose-fitting clothes at any time of year. To be in harmony of the local culture and trend, female travelers are advised to wear clothes that cover the legs and upper arms. Shorts are rarely worn by adults except at the beach. So, full-length trousers will be the better option and not to forget to take brollies due to different rainfall patterns occurred in Malaysia.
