Climate of Bahrain

Kingdom of Bahrain or Bahrain comprises 33 islands, occupying an area of more than 700 sq.kms. It is located in the Persian Gulf, East of Saudi Arabia. The landscape of Bahrain is mostly low desert plain rising gently to low Central escarpment. The climate of Bahrain is largely conditioned by two seasons---hot summer and a relatively mild winter.

It is very hot during summer, which generally starts from April and lasts till October with the averagebh-cli 1 temperature of 40° C and goes up to 48° C during June and July. The nights are relatively hot and humid, while high humidity and intense heat are experienced during the day. A hot, dry southwest wind called “qaws” blows across the barren southern end of Bahrain toward Manama carrying sand and dust.

The climate is pleasant during winter with temperatures ranging from 15 to 24 degree Celsius. Usually the weather becomes coolest between the month of December and March. However, humidity often rises above 90 percent in the winter. A northwesterly damp wind called “shamal” is predominant over the islands from December to March. On the whole, irrespective of the seasons, Bahrain has fairly uniform daily temperatures with abundant sunshine throughout the year.

With just average annual rainfall of 72mm, Bahrain receives scarce rainfall, which normally occurs during winter. The winter rains are brief with torrential bursts flooding the shallow wadis that have remained dry the rest of the year. Though rainwater is not saved for irrigation or drinking, numerous natural springs are found in the northern part of Bahrain and the neighboring islands.

If you are planning a trip to Bahrain, the best time is between February to April and October tobh-cl 2 December, when the sky is clear with less heat. However, you better avoid the month of Ramadan, when restaurants remains close during day and the two Eid holidays, when the hotels are in high demand from Saudi visitors. Light cottons and linens are best suitable for spring and autumn and medium weight clothes from November to March. You may require warmer clothes for winter and cool evenings.
