Entry & DepartureVisitors from the US and Canada do not require a passport to enter, but must have a notarized birth certificate and driver’s license. All other visitors require a passport only, except for former Eastern Bloc countries which require a visa as well. Maximum stay is 30 days, renewable once, and all visitors have to pay $35 departure tax.
Flight Information
The Turks & Caicos Islands are only 75 minutes away from Miami and 3 hours from New York and Boston. Direct flights are available from the US, UK, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Haiti. Flights arrive at the international airport in Providenciales. Private charter flights are available to the other islands.
Shopping
Providenciales is the main city of the islands and has three shopping malls, the Ports of Call, Market Place and Central Square; all include a place to buy souvenirs as well as clothing, beach and sportswear. Resorts also offer boutiques for more exclusive purchases.
Currency
The official currency is US Dollar. Traveler’s checks can be cashed at local banks and are accepted by most hotels, restaurants and taxis. All major credit cards are accepted widely and can be used at ATMs for cash withdrawal. Tipping, usually 15%, is common practice.
Clothing
Shorts are worn both on and off the beach, and accepted in many eating establishments. However some restaurants require formal pants and collared shirts for men and dress slacks or dresses for women diners. In the winter a light sweater or jacket can come in handy. Public nudity is illegal.
