Travel tips to Mauritius

Before you pack your bags here are some tips to remember tomake your visit more much easier and hassel free. The office hours in Mauritius are around 09.00hrs to 16.00hrs Monday thru Friday. Below are few more important details to remember;

• The Local Time of Mauritius is G.M.T. + 4 (+ 2 hours for Europe during summer), (+ 3 hours in winter)
  
• American Express, Diners, MasterCard and Visa credit cards are accepted in Mauritius. Travellers’ cheques and bank notes can be changed upon international arrivals and departures at the airport.
  
• The opening hours of offices are around 09.00hrs to 16.00hrs Monday thru Friday and 09.00-12.00 on Saturdays. The shops open from around 10.00hrs to 18.00hrs Monday thru Friday and 09.00hrs to 12.00hrs on Saturdays. Business hours in Banks are around 09.15hrs to 15.15hrs Monday thru Thursday and 09.15hrs to 15.30hrs on Fridays. Banks are present in all the towns and the important villages.
  
• Care should be taken with bags and valuables when visiting the popular tourist areas of Grand Baie and Flic en Flac or crowded local markets.
  
• Some pharmaceutical drugs that are freely available on prescription in the UK, are prohibited in Mauritius and import of these drugs without a valid prescription results in prosecution and a fine. 
  
• A certificate of vaccination against yellow fever must be produced by all travelers from infected regions.
  
• The risk of Malaria exist in a harmless form (P.Virax) in certain regions of the island but not in Rodrigues.  
  
• Mauritius has two types of medical services, a public service where hospitalisation, care and medicine are free, then the private services with some private clinics in the towns.
