Shopping in Nauru

shoppingSituated in the Pacific, Nauru is one of the smallest countries and smallest republic in the world and shopping options are also very limited. There are a number of shops on the island, although service and goods at government shops tend to be of poor quality.

There are numerous supermarkets, the largest being Capelle's, in Ewa district but visitors should buy essential goods in advance. There are no sales taxes but customs duties are levied on a range of goods.

Nauru has many superstores that sell mostly imported goods and commodities. These are certainly costly. There is a threadbare supermarket in Aiwo which sells almost exclusively Black & Gold (budget Aussie brand) stock and there are countless small kiosks and shacks offering snacks and drinks.

If you're looking for gifts, there are some Nauru-branded clothes as well as other tropical shirts and sarongs etc.

Shopping hours: Mon-Fri 0900-1700, Sat 0900-1300.
