Getting to Saba

Saba is a small and secluded island, which is a great place for a peaceful yet adventurous vacation. To reach Saba is an adventure in itself. One can reach this tiny land either by sea or air.

All the same, air travel is the easiest way to reach this virgin Dutch island in the Caribbean. Vacationers who want to enjoy the thrills of the waves of either the Atlantic Ocean or Caribbean Sea can reach Saba by boat.

By air

There are no direct flights to reach Saba. However, there are connecting flights mostly from St. Maarten, which is at a distance of 15 minutes by air. Airplane passengers will land at Juancho Yrausquin Airport in Saba. The airport is located in the area of the island called Flat Point, named so because it is one of the only level areas on the island. The airport can accommodate only smaller aircrafts on its airstrip, which is the shortest in the world at just 1,312 feet.

Several major airlines from North America, Europe and South America carry daily flights to St. Maarten. Special charter flights area also available from major cities during the winter season.

WinAir (Windward Islands Airways) makes 5 or more flights each day to Saba to Juancho Yrausquin Airport. Inter-island flights can be arranged while some are scheduled weekly.

By sea

Luxury cruises can be an extended part of your relaxing vacation in Saba. Since Saba has no deepwater harbors or beaches, a limited number of cruise lines and ships visit the island. Travelers can either take a day ferry from St. Maarten to visit Saba or can choose a small cruise line that includes Saba in its ports of call. Fort Bay Harbor, the island's main harbor and port, is not a deepwater harbor.

Therefore, several small luxury cruise lines anchor outside of the harbor at Fort Bay, allowing guests to spend a day in exploration of the charming island. Visitors can also take pleasure of scuba diving in the famed Saba Marine Park or hiking to the top of Mt Scenery for breathtaking views.
