Getting to Montserrat

There are various means to get to Montserrat, through air or sea, here’s a list of the means to get to Montserrat.

 

New Airport at Montserrat

Montserrat new airport at Gerald is to opens in early-July 2005. The features of the new airport include comforts of a new air-conditioned departure and arrivals terminal, a full air traffic control suite, runway lighting, free short stay and overnight parking. The airport will also be open for charter services from surrounding islands. 

 

Other means to access Montserrat

The nearest international airport is Antigua with direct services from New York, Newark, Philadelphia, London, Toronto, San Juan and many Caribbean islands. There are daily scheduled inter island flights provided by LIAT, Caribbean Star, American Eagle and BWIA which also operate to Antigua. Travel out of Antigua to Montserrat and vice versa is possible either via helicopter or via ferry services, which operate daily to and from the island.  A fast, comfortable ride of just under an hour by ferry and twenty minutes by helicopter allows for panoramic views of the island, its beauty and the redevelopment of its landscape from a distance.

 

Ferry rides:  The ferry, "Rapid Explorer", has a seating capacity of 144 and provides an inexpensive ride to Montserrat in air-conditioned comfort.

During the week the ferry fare is US$ 75.00 (EC$ 200.00) for the round trip.

Helicopter Ride:   For a unique way of travel that is quick and efficient, the helicopter provides an exciting option. It seats 8 persons with limited baggage and costs approximately $US112.00 ($EC 300.00) return. The helicopter service into Montserrat operates on a daily basis except on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
