Getting to Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein is centrally located in Europe sharing the boundaries with Austria and Switzerland. You can travel to the principality by air, train, bus or car.

By Air

Since Liechtenstein does not have an airport of its own, it can be easily approached from three airports located in two different countries. The three airports are, namely, Kloten International Airport at Flughafen in Zurich, Switzerland; St. Gallen in Altenrhein near Lake Constance and Friedrichshafen in Germany. The distance for Liechtenstein from Zurich is 110 km, from Altenrhein is 50 km and from Friedrichshafen is 85 km.

By Train

Liechtenstein’s railways are administered by the government organization Austrian Federal Railways as part of the route between Feldkirch, Austria and Buchs SG, Switzerland. Four stations in Liechtenstein, including Schaan-Vaduz, Forst Hilti, Nendeln, and Schaanwald, are served by an irregular stopping train service that runs between Feldkirch and Buchs. The main center for reaching Liechtenstein is Buchs in Switzerland, which about 8 km from Vaduz. Postal buses are the chief means of public transportation both within Liechtenstein and to Austria and Switzerland. A 740 m long tunnel connects the Samina River Valley with the Rhine River Valley.
