Local Transport Efficient and reasonably priced services connect all towns and villages on the island. These buses ply 24 hours a day between all the main towns on the island. The Government regulates the fares for these services. |
Nicosia has its own privately run Bus Company offering efficient services at flat fares. The service covers the urban area of Limassol and links the port with the tourist area.

Taxis are widely available and all of them have meters. A 15% additional amount is charged during the night, between 11 in the night till 6 in the morning. Tipping is a conventional practice here.
Transurban Service Taxis offer an excellent, cheap service using seven-seat taxis running fixed routes between main points. Taxis run to a timetable and delivery is door to door. Fares under this system are often one-tenth of the usual rate.
The Youth Card allows European travelers between 13 and 26 discounts on taxi fares (further information can be received from the Cyprus Youth Board, Lefkosia, Themistoki Dervi 41, Hawaii Tower; Tel: 304 160; fax: 455 135).
Car Rentals
Hiring a car is one of the best ways to explore the island. Arrangements can be made at airports and commercial centres, however reservations should be made in advance during the summer season. Reduced tariffs are offered if cars are hired for more than a week. Road signs are in both Greek and English. Traffic drives on the left.
For those who choose to rent a motorcycle, riders and pillion passengers should always wear crash helmets if the motorcycle is over 50cc.
You require an international driving permit or national driving license for driving around on the island.
