Getting around in Curacao

Curacao has a number of historical sites, restaurants, and activities. To completely enjoy the sites and sounds of the island, travelers will need to decide how to make their way around. Travelers can choose from several methods of transport that vary in price, comfort level, and popularity.

The cheapest and the easiest way to get around Curacao is by taking advantage of the free ferry service that travels between the island's two main shopping centers. There are large buses and minibuses that travel all over the island, and public transportation is popular with both tourists and locals.

Curacao has several car rental agencies that are conveniently located at the airport or have a desk at major hotels. Charges range from US$ 25 or more per day for a standard compact without air-conditioning, around US$ 40 per day for an air-conditioned sedan, to about US$ 45 for a Jeep. An international credit card or a cash deposit is required.

Renting a bike or moped gives you the chance to see the island from a unique viewpoint. You can travel the island at your own pace and not be confined to the inside of a car.

Taxis are also available at all hotels, the airport, and major locations in Willemstad. Taxis have no meters but the fares are standard, however, agree on a fare with the driver before traveling. Courtesy vans, operated by the hotels, are also a very comfortable means of traveling within the island.
