Jamaica is the third and the largest islands of the Caribbean. Transportation is not always easy in Jamaica, but there are several options available to make your journey either across town or across the island convenient and enjoyable. |
By air
Internal air travel in the island is facilitated mainly by Air Jamaica Express. Other domestic operators are the ALM/Dutch, BWLA, Cayman Airways and Sky King. The tourist can travel to and from Kingston, Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios and Port Antonio through domestic flights.
By train
Trains are another unique transportation option available on the island. One line will take you from Kingston to Montego Bay.
By road
In Jamaica, there is a 17,000km road network. Regular bus services are available in Montego Bay and Kingston. Coach and minibus tours can be booked in advance at most of the hotels. To traverse long distances, taxis and buses are always there. Travelers also have the option to rent a bike to explore the mountains of Jamaica or to hire a scooter for convenient transportation around town. Cars can be hired at all major towns and airports. For a rare Jamaican experience, travel with the Jamaican Union of Travelers Association (JUTA) on trips across town or across the island.
By water
Boats and yachts can be hired on a daily or weekly basis. There are a number of local operators running yacht tours around the island. The ferryboats helps tourists to reach out to unusual places for sightseeing.
