All those traveling to Papua New Guinea require a passport valid for one year after entry. A visa is also required by all for entering the country.
Tourist Visa costs around £7 and is valid for up to 60 days. The cost for a multiple-entry Business Visa is around £175 and is valid up to 12 months for business trips with 60 days maximum per stay.
Costs vary for special categories of visitors including yachtsmen and those engaged in medical, research or expedition activities. Extensions shall be provided at an additional cost. Details of renewals or extensions are available from the Embassy or High Commission.
Application has to be made to Consulate (or Consular section at Embassy or High Commission). In emergency cases, Tourist visas can be obtained at Jackson International Airport in Port Moresby on arrival. However, visitors are strongly advised to obtain visas in advance.
The following may be imported into Papua New Guinea by persons over 18 years of age without incurring customs duty:
200 cigarettes or 200g tobacco; 1 litre of alcoholic beverages; goods up to a value of Kina250 (Kina100 for persons under 18 years of age) excluding radios, tape recorders, television sets, video cameras, video tapes, and record players.
Prohibited items include plants and soil, uncanned foods of animal origin (unless from Australia or New Zealand), and all pig meat from New Zealand.
Papua New Guinea customs authorities may enforce strict regulations concerning temporary importation into or export from Papua New Guinea of items such as firearms, certain prescription drugs, and sexually explicit material. There are also import restrictions on items such as dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables, honey, straw, and animal bone.
