Visa requirements for Bahamas

Passport, valid for 6 months beyond date of departure, is required by all, however, passports are not required by nationals of the USA and Canada, holding a valid return ticket, traveling direct from their home country for stays not exceeding 6 months and possessing some form of identification like a naturalization certificate or original birth certificate along with driver's license, Senior Citizen's Card, University or college acceptance identification, or Employment identification, all with photograph.


Tourist visas are required by all except for nationals of Caribbean countries for a stay of up to 6 months (except for nationals of Cuba and the Netherlands Antilles who can stay for up to 28 days, and nationals of the Dominican Republic who do need a visa). Nationals of EU countries for a stay of upto 6 months (except nationals of Portugal for stays of up to 28 days) and nationals of Commonwealth countries for a stay of up to 6 months (except nationals of Cameroon, India, Mozambique, Namibia and Pakistan who do need a visa) also do not require a visa. Nationals of most Latin American and European countries also do not require a visa. A Tourist Visa costs around £18.

The Bahamian Dollar is the official currency of the Islands of Bahamas. A Bahamian dollar (B$) equals 100 cents and the notes are in denominations of B$100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 3, 1, and 50 cents. Coins are in denominations of 25, 15, 10, 5 and 1. The US Dollar is also widely accepted as legal tender. Diners Club, MasterCard, Visa and American Express are widely accepted credit cards. Travelers are advised to take travelers cheques in US Dollars.Permission is required from the Central Bank of the Bahamas to import local currency, which may be exported up to a maximum of B$70. The import and export of foreign currency are unlimited.
