Visa Regulations |
Visas are required by all except the following for stays of up to 3 months:

Nationals of Britain, Canada, USA, Japan, Australia and most European Union countries, and UK Overseas Territories.

Nationals of Commonwealth countries (except nationals of Bangladesh, Cameroon, Ghana, India, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria and Sri Lanka who do need a visa to enter Malta);

Nationals of Andorra, Argentina, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Iceland, Indonesia, Israel, Hungary, Korea (Rep. of), Kuwait, Latvia, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Monaco, Morocco, Norway, Poland, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, Uruguay and Vatican City.
Transit passengers continuing their journey by the same of first connecting airport within 24 hours and holding valid onward or return documentation and not leaving the airport do not require a visa. Hong Kong citizens in possession of British Overseas (BOC) passports and British Nationals Overseas (BNO) passports do not require a visa. But, holders of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) passports do require a visa.
A Single-entry visa costs around £24 and is valid for a month. A Transit visa costs around £18 and is valid for 24 hours only. Multiple-entry visas for 1 year are issued only by the Immigration Police in Malta. For renewal or extension, apply to the High Commission or Embassy.
Sudanese nationals on route to Libya via Malta require a transit visa and a valid residence permit for Libya. Nationals of Algeria can obtain their visa free of charge. Visitors requiring an entry visa to Malta and undertaking day trips of less than 24 hours to another country do not need to pay for another entry visa on their return to Malta.
Forex Details
The local currency is Maltese Lira (Lm). A Lm is divided into 100 cents and further subdivided into mils. Notes are in denominations of Lm 20, 10, 5 and 2. Coins are in denominations of Lm1, 50, 25, 10, 5, 2 and 1 cents.The import of local currency is limited to Lm50. The import and export of foreign currency is unlimited, subject to declaration. The export of local currency is limited to Lm25.
