Entry requirements for Dubai

A visa to the United Arab Emirates or Dubai is arranged by a sponsor residing in the counrty and fee is to be paid by him/ her. The Embassy only issues visas on for diplomatic or service visits.


For routine travel, visas for tourists and business travelers must be arranged via the sponsor (the hotel/package tour operator or UAE resident/company concerned). To obtain approval, the sponsor will require the visitor’s proposed flight and passport details in advance. Business visits are made by invitation only and proof of company trading license is required.

The Government of the UAE refuses entry and transit to nationals of Israel.

Citizens of UK will be granted a free of charge visit visa on arrival in the UAE. As you pass through the immigration the passport will be stamped with the visit visa. Though the visa is stamped for 30 days, it entitles the holder to stay for 60 days. The visa may be renewed for 30 additional days for a fee of Dh500.

The citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC countries) do not require a visa on entry.

Recently the cabinet has decided to reduce the visit visa period for citizens of 33 countries. The recent decision allows citizens of those countries to enter the country without a prior visa to one month non-renewable instead of 3 months. A charge of Dhs 100 per visa is to be collected upon their entry.

The citizens of the following countries come under this category: France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Ireland, Greece, Cyprus, Finland, Malta, Spain, Monaco, Vatican, Iceland, Andorra, San Marino, Liechtenstein, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

For individual tourists from Europe who are not entitled to be issued with the visa on arrival, a tourist Visa is issued. Visitors from Thailand, South Africa and China also come under this category. The visa must be sponsored by hotels or tour operators. The holder can stay for 30 days and it is not renewable. The fee charged is Dh100. 

Entry Service Permit – This is a 14 day permit available to businessmen and tourists. This has to be sponsored by a company or commercial establishment or a licensed hotel in UAE. The fee is Dh120. The visa is non renewable. Holders of this visa can stay for 14 days excluding the arrival and departure days.

Transit Visa – If you are flying through UAE airports, a 96-hour transit visa can be obtained. You need to be sponsored by an airline operating in the UAE. You should also have a valid onward flight ticket. There is no charge for this visa.

Multiple Entry Visa – For business men who frequently visit the UAE, this type of visa is useful. This is valid for six months from date of issue. The visa costs Dh1000. Each visit should not exceed 30 days while in this visa. German citizens can apply to the UAE embassy in Germany and US citizens can apply to the UAE embassy in the US.

You need the following documents to get a visa:

• Passport
• 2 photographs
• Duplicate application form
• Letter or fax from the sponsor in the UAE to the embassy concerned
• A letter from the applicant’s company plus photocopy
