Restaurants in & around Castries

 Restaurant

Creole House
  (
Daily 8am-midnight) Moderate. Set two blocks east of Derek Walcott Square in a colourful gingerbread building that survived the fires of the early nineteenth century. Serves savoury traditional Creole fare such as callaloo soup and codfish accras.
Brazil Street
T 4523238.

Naked Virgin
Daily lunch & dinner. Moderate. Creole specialities, including a famous Shrimp Creole, as well non-Creole chicken and seafood dishes. The "Naked Virgin" is a startling rum-punch drink which packs a mighty kick.
Marchand Road
T 4525594.

Peppino's Pizza
Daily lunch & dinner. Inexpensive. Good pizza, calzones, and some traditional Italian pasta dishes are the fare at this typical pizza-joint. There's another branch at the Gablewoods Mall north of town.
Upper Bridge Street
T 4577466.

Rain
(
Mon-Sat 8am-11pm) Moderate. One of the city's best restaurants, beautifully located on the second floor of a gingerbread town house opposite Derek Walcott Square; tables on the outside verandah are well worth reserving. The menu is eclectic and the dishes (Creole prawns, fish in peanut curry or grilled pork ribs) are well executed.

The Morne and Morne Fortune Mon-Fri 11am-2pm & 6.30-9.30pm, Sat & Sun 6.30-9.30pm. Expensive.Reservations are essential at this popular five-table restaurant in the Castries hills. House specialities are steaks and seafood, the cuisine is international and French nouveau - smallish servings tastefully arranged and embellished with minimal amounts of heavy sauces - and the wine selection is as impressive as the views of the harbour below.
Morne Road, Morne Fortune
T 4522757.

Green Parrot  Daily 7am-late. Expensive. Irascible chef Harry Edwards once cooked at the illustrious Claridge's hotel in London, but now he's content with presiding over restaurant floorshows and working a James Bond theme into the menu; try Beef Thunderballs a la Flambe or Steak Pussy Galore. Other dishes include roast duck in orange sauce or fish Creole, and the cooking is enhanced by views of Castries harbour. The restaurant will pay round-trip taxi fares for groups of four or more, and the one-way fare for parties of two.
