People of Luxembourg

The people of Luxembourg are amazingly lovely and beautiful, the warmth of their loveliness and individuality even extending to their national language, which is vaguely related to both French and German, yet quite different from both.

So contented are they as a lot that their favourite line is "Mir welle bleiwe wat mir sin" meaning "We want to remain what we are"! One can find this national motto inscribed over old door frames, hear it echoed in songs and recognize its essence in the people of Grand Duchy.

Generally speaking, they are hardworking and industrious. Foreign firms in Luxembourg record a far higher level of productivity in the Grand Duchy than in other locations. One look at the country's well-tended farms or shops will reveal the industriousness of their owners. A Luxembourg home, the cleanliness and the order therein, speaks more loudly about its proud homemaker. And, of course, the swiftness with which Luxembourgers rebuilt and revived their country after the devastation of World War II is ample testimony to their collective abilities.

The people of Luxembourg are also cosmopolitan in their nature and outlook. From their cuisine to their culture and dress, they are at home in the world, eager to travel and secure enough in their own uniqueness to appreciate the special qualities of others. In addition to this openness, they are essentially proud and patriotic.

To say that the Luxembourgers are fond of eating is an understatement. Important matters are discussed and decisions are made in cafes or pastry shops. They are also fond of cooking. The visitors must indulge in their luscious pastries and enjoy the taste of Luxembourg. Around half of the total land area of the Grand Duchy is farmed, but only 6% of Luxembourgers live and work on farms.

A little time with these proud and charming people will leave you silently echoing their motto, with the slight addition, "We want you to remain what you are!"
