Maltese art & artists

Being immersed in culture and centuries old aesthetics, the art scene in Malta is pretty intense and extremely varied.  As with many other aspects of Maltese society, the sacred and the profane are intertwined to offer a hybrid unique not only to the Mediterranean but also to this long standing archipelago. The Maltese also expand their energy on art related amusements and so popular entertainments such as the cinemas and dance clubs are scattered all over the islands.

Here is a list of few of the most popular contemporary artists of Malta;

1: Anton Agius
Anton Agius is an artist with a deep sympathy and compassion for the have-nots, for those less fortunate. He has piercing eyes that blaze with passion, a bubbling and overflowing energy, and a warm smile that melts mountains of ice.

2: Julie Apap

Julie Apap is a potter of quality. Her works are elelgant, refined and meticulously finished with an attention to detail and, occasionally, burnished and polished surfaces. She specializes in functional ware and containers of exquisite craftsmanship and design, with a fine decorative quality that induces the client to acquire a piece to decorate a corner in the house.

3: Antonio Sciortino

Antonio Sciortino is one of Malta's best loved sculptors. The Maltese born with artistic inclination feel a greater degree of congeniality towards sculpture - a kind of inherent attitude, given the plentiful supply of local limestone in Malta, known as tal-franka that happens to be an eminently suitable matrix for carving.
