Travel tips to Nauru

Air Nauru or Our Airline is the national airlines of the country and connect it with Pohnpei, Manila, Guam, Tarawa, Suva-Nadi, Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. Airport is situated in Yaren near the Parliament House.

Local Transport
There is an encircling road that runs for 19 km. There are several kilometres of roads inside the island. Most of the island can be walked around or you can take public transport buses and taxis. Cars can be hired and an International Driving License is the only requirement.

Weather and Best Season to Visit
The climate of Nauru is tropical which is tempered by the sea breezes. Most of the rain takes place from November to February which is the time for westerly monsoon season. There is not much temperature differentiation during different seasons and temperature remains between 23ºC to 32ºC. Except the rainy season, you can go to Nauru anytime of the year.

Places to Visit
Central Plateau, Yaren, Cantilevers, Command Ridge, Former Presidents' House etc are some of the attractive places that you can visit in this country.

Nightlife is limited to a bar and restaurant at the Menen Hotel and a handful of Chinese restaurants.

Health tips
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers over one year of age coming from infected areas. Vaccination required if arriving within 5 days of leaving infected areas.

Water is normally chlorinated, and whilst relatively safe may cause mild abdominal upsets. Bottled water is available and is advised for the first few weeks of the stay. Drinking water outside main cities and towns may be contaminated and sterilisation is advisable. Local meat, poultry, seafood, fruit and vegetables are generally considered safe to eat.

Nauru has 14 general physicians, all of whom work at either one of the two hospitals. The 2 hospitals in Nauru are the Nauru General Hospital and Nauru Phosphate Corporation Hospital. There are no medical specialists, and serious or complicated cases are sent to Australia for treatment, via Air Nauru. Travellers are advised to take out full health insurance prior to departure.
