The relevant area for contact for those interested in investing in Nauru is the Department of Industry and Economic Development.
Investment Opportunities
Tourism: Tourism facilities for the limited number of visitors are generally well developed, although opportunities exist for further accommodation, game fishing/diving operations and associated support facilities including up-market restaurants.
Air Nauru: It's national airline Air Nauru has only one 737-400 aircraft, which provides the only service to and from Nauru. Development of the airline, including an extension of its existing fleet, would provide a lucrative opportunity to the discerning investor. Its strategic location (between Melanesia and Micronesia) and direct airline routes provide the opportunity for Nauru to become an event and conference location.
Marine: Here the opportunity exists for investors to develop the fishing of a range of migratory species, including vast tuna stocks; the development of a viable onshore and offshore fishing industry is a priority of the government as well. Direct flight services to Asia, Australia, the Fiji Islands and Kiribati augur well for investors keen on exporting fresh, chilled or frozen seafood from Nauru to these lucrative markets.
Strategic location: Because of its strategically central location, Nauru also has the potential to be a viable fishing boat repair and refit centre. An extensive number of foreign-owned vessels from Japan, the United States, Taiwan, the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China operate in the Pacific Islands and present overseas investors with a ready market.
