The history of horse racing in Jamaica goes back to the early 19th century. The only horse racing track in Jamaica is the Caymanas Park in Kingston. Now there are a number of smaller tracks found all around the island.
The Caymanas park race track attracts more than 12,500 people for the race. Off track betting in Jamaica is the reason behind the success of these races. During the heyday of Jamaica’s reggae, songs were written on racehorses. The popular horse Long Shot died during a race which inspired the hit song’ Long Shot Kicked the Bucket’.
