Mas Domnik, the carnival in Dominica, will be celebrated with official activities from February 15th to March 4th. The official days for the carnival will be 3rd and 4th March. Mas Domnik 2003 will be part of the celebrations to observe Dominica’s 25th Anniversary of Independence. This will also be in honor of more than 175 years of carnival culture in Dominica. |

Dominica’s carnival celebration is of a very special kind among the carnivals in the region and it is dubbed as the Caribbean’s most original carnival. Carnival season is the most festive time of the year, in the island, when music, culture, people and wild celebration merge together for nothing less than fun and fun alone. |
Activities for Mas Domnik 2003 have started in last December, with a number of planned activities in all parts of the island nation. The “opening of carnival city” will kicks off the festival. The carnival will showcase the island’s unique costumes, which reflect the strong African presence and influence in the masquerade forms. The costumes lists from sensay, cowboys, sooswell soowi, to Indians and Wob Dwiyet bands.
The streets would be flooded with a kaleidoscope of colors. Business places and various organizations gear up for very creative and attractive floats with some special themes. Usually the trucks or trailers used for these floats would be so well covered that one could not even find out where the driver is!
The "Queen Show," the contest between intelligent beauties for the title of Miss Dominica, “Stardom” the contest for the title of Calypso Monarch, in which the method of elimination lasts for weeks among the Calypsonians are among the most expected events of the carnival. Annual Steel Band competition is also expected to fill the air with the sounds of steel-bands. Band Splash is the time when people get the feel of the new songs and albums coming out for the carnival.
Spring Break is the new event planned for the forthcoming carnival in Soufriere. An artificial beach is put up there and the carnival committee gears up for arranging sunset cruises, booze cruise, dive packages, competitions, great night life and a great tour to everyone. Spring Break 2003 in Dominica is going to be an experience of a lifetime.
Nine days of water sports and Beach Party awaits in a country with friendly people, magical sunsets, rainforests, beaches, wild parties, hot springs and world class water sports. Parties in Dominica will have added charm for the country produces rum, malts and award winning beer.
