Martinique has a lively nightlife that takes place mostly around Fort-de-France. The local entertainment guide Choubouloute, printed in both English and French, provides current information and is available at most hotels and bars. There are about a dozen good little nightspots in Fort-de-France that fill the night with pulsating Zouk rhythms or soft jazz. |
You can relax while having a cocktail and listen to music played by a small orchestra, which ranges from jazz to French pop, Caribbean or Brazilian.
There are several piano bars and theater cafes where you can listen to various types of music. Most resorts plan Caribbean-style evenings of entertainment, including limbo dancers and steel bands. For those craving other cultural entertainment, the Ballet Martiniquais is one of the world’s most prestigious ballet companies.
Every year in July, SERMAC organizes a two-week arts festival in Fort-de-France with local and foreign artists performing plays and dances. CMAC (Centre Martiniquais d’Action Culturelle) organizes plays, concerts, films and documentaries all year round as well as an annual festival in December.
Martinique also has two gambling casinos; one in Pointe-du-Bout and the other in Schœlcher, near Fort-de-France. There's no shortage of little nightclubs and discos throbbing to the beat of jazz and zouk; here is a list of some of the most exciting night spots on the islands;
