Nightlife in Malta

nightlifeThe beautiful and exotic islands of Malta offer vibrant and colourful nightlife with its discotheques, restaurants, casinos, cinemas, wine and jazz bars, theme evenings, sunset cruises and culture galore. Nightlife is an all-week affair in Malta. Streets in the nightlife towns get literally crowded with people, all out for a good night out.

Paceville (St. Julian's area) offers a wide array of clubs and bars to suit most musical tastes. All clubs are concentrated in the center of Paceville and the area's always full of party people on weekends and radiates with energy. There's something for everyone: trance clubs, R&B and hip-hop joints, salsa bars and alternative/rock bars. Besides clubs you'll also find other kinds of entertainment in Paceville, including Malta's largest cinema, a bowling alley, sports bars and gentlemen's clubs.

There are places of interest in the evening, in virtually every major tourism locality. Most bars/clubs are open until 4am every night and most restaurants open around 7pm. Most of the nightlife is concentrated around the Paceville/St. Julians area.

Entertaining on the Islands can vary in price, but generally is relatively inexpensive. The price of alcohol is considerably cheaper than anywhere else in Europe, and entrance to most major entertainment venues is also reasonable. Restaurants of all types and varieties can be found here, and the "big" clubs are also resident here. With so many five star hotels in the St. Julians area one can also find lounge entertainment, with live music, dinner and dancing.

Other parts of Malta are also suited for night entertainment, such as Bugibba, Mellieha and Marsascala. These have similar venues, though on a smaller scale to that of St.Julians. Valletta predominantly shines during the Arts festival in the summer, when it is host to various art exhibits and concerts, including the popular Malta International Jazz Festival.

Other Valletta venues include the impeccable Manoel Theatre, where most of the major symphonic and operatic works are performed. Crossing the channel to Gozo, one finds a similar selection to that of Malta, with a nice mix of restaurants lining the fishing villages of Marsalforn and Xlendi. After dinner you may enjoy the rest of your evening in wine bars or pubs. For dancing, Gozo has four discos, of which one is considered among the best in Europe.

Open air clubs in Malta
If you love clubbing then you should definitely not miss out on the fantastic open air parties that take place in a number of venues in Malta and Gozo.

Night Spots
Bugibba offers enjoyable nightlife with many hotels, beach clubs and bars. Although there is no clear demarcation line from St Paul's Bay, it is more hectic and has recently undergone a total revamp. It now looks a lot better and is quite enjoyable.

Paceville is a resort area, consisting mainly of holiday accommodation and has the biggest concentration of bars and clubs in Malta. Vibrant and teeming with locals, European and Scandinavian youthful souls, it sets the nightscene in Malta. Facilities range from state of the art clubs, live music bars, ethnic restaurants and bars. Most places stay open quite late and fast food outlets provide fuel to those on a bar/club crawl.

St George's is a stroll away from St Julians, and the scene changes to one of multiple screens cinemas, a bowling alley together with beach clubs providing water sports facilities. More hotels can be found here ranging from the 5 Stars San Gorg Corinthia to the 4 Stars Lapsi Hotel.

Malta's British influence is reflected in its pint measures of beer - the local brews of Cisk lager and Hop Leaf Ale are good bets. The local soft drink of Kinnie', flavoured with bitter oranges and aromatic herbs, mixes perfectly with vodka.
