The ethereal beauty of the islands of Seychelles inspires many a young couple to choose it as the ultimate destination where they may exchange their vows of love and loyalty. A wedding in Seychelles is truly out-of-this-world affair. |
Imagine saying your oaths to a loved one under a canopy of palms, feeling not only the loving touch of your beloved’s hand but also the caressing breeze and the beautiful warm sunshine.
The Seychelles have also been a favourite with honeymooning couples and for those intending to marry, it’s the perfect place to tie the knot. Your wedding could be arranged on the beach, in the hotel, on the grounds of an old colonial house, or wherever you wish. The ceremony is usually performed by the local Registrar, and if you wish, it is possible to have a church ceremony, for example in the wonderful small church on La Digue.
Weddings are usually arranged through travel agents who take care of all the little important things. Travel agents specializing in wedding arrangements are a little more expensive. Church weddings and the requisite paperwork must usually be arranged and organized before the actual event; speak with your local priest and the priest of the chosen church on the Seychelles. The Seychelles tourist office would be glad to assist you with all the information you require.
For the wedding, you will require your passport and birth certificate. These must be brought with you, in original form, along with an authorized translation into either English or French if in another language. Both parties must be at least 18 years of age, and should have been living within the Seychelles for at least 11 days. A special fee of SR100 can be paid in order to marry within the first 11 days of your stay. Two witnesses are also required, which will be supplied by the hotel if none are traveling with you.
The ceremony would usually take place late afternoon, but you are free to choose the time of day. The afternoon is recommended since it is a little cooler for those wanting to wear thick dresses and suits. In the evening, after the ceremony, a special meal will be provided for you, the menu being mostly of your choice. If you wish for a quiet romantic candle-lit dinner for two, this can be arranged, as can a meal with the rest of the guests, sharing your day to remember with everybody else.
Your wedding day should be a day to cherish for the rest of your life, and your wedding on the Seychelles will be just that!
