The Complete Guide to Getting Married in Barbados

Barbados offers a wide range of options to choose the wedding locations right from the natural settings of flora and fauna to the traditional ones in the historic churches. There is no residency requirement in Barbados or a waiting period for the marriage license. You can essentially get married while you are there on holiday.

There are no visa requirements for European and North American citizens for a stay up to 3 months. You will require only your passport and a return ticket upon arrival in Barbados.

In order to obtain for a marriage license the prospective bride and groom both need to apply in person at the Ministry of Home Affair with the required documents. No blood tests are required either.

The office is open from Monday to Friday, 8:15am to 4:30 pm except public holidays.

 

Marriage License

 

In order to get married in Barbados, you will need the following documents to obtain a Marriage License

 

  1. Valid Passports for both individuals
  2. Original Birth Certificate with Photo ID (passport will do)
  3. Letter from the Marriage Officer.
  4. Original divorce decree and a certified translation in English, which must be certified by an authorized Public Notary and NOT a Justice of Peace.
  5. Fees are BDS$ 150 in cash and a $25 stamp for non-residents.

 

NB: The Marriage Officer’s fee is dependent on the person you hire.
