Persons who wish to get married in the tropical paradise of St.Maarten have to submit the request the marriages at least 14 days before the scheduled ceremony.
The persons who wish to marry must be at least 21 years of age. In case of minors permission from parents is required.
The following notarized original documents must be submitted Registrar.
1. The birth certificates of both, the bride and the groom to prove the legality of the marriage. These documents should be provided with an “Apostille Stamp”
2. A declaration of the marital status by unmarried persons not older than 3 months.
3. Address of both, the bride and the groom.
4. A death certificate has to be produced in the case of a widow(er) and the divorce certificate or a final judgement decree in the case of a divorcee.
5. Valid passport of the persons, if they are foreign nationals.
6. Names of parents and maiden name of mother
7) Professions of bride, groom and their parents.
8) Two witnesses for the marriage if it takes place in the Marriage hall and if the marriage takes place outside the marriage hall, six witnesses are required. Foreign witnesses must present a valid passport or a birth certificate with picture identification.
All the above documents must be in Dutch or English. In case the original documents are in French or Spanish they need to be translated into Dutch and not English.
The government and the administrative costs will be around US$650. Marriages will be performed after all documents are found correct by the Civil Registrar.
