Founded in 1993, the Holders Season is established as the premier cultural event in the Caribbean. Acclaimed nationally and internationally, the season is a celebration of opera, music and theatre. The production always plays to capacity houses and its high artistic standard draws audiences from around the world. |
Holders Season takes place in the beautiful garden of Holders House, a 17th century plantation house, owned by John and Wendy Kidd and their family. The property adjoins the famous resort of Sandy Lane.
Holders Season has developed a reputation for encouraging new works, it hosted the world premier of an opera by Stuart Copeland and commissioned Roxanna Panufnic to rewrite the music for a 18th century ballad opera, Inkle & Yarico, which performed internationally this year to critical acclaim.
Holders have built a state of the art recording studio designed to record DVD/prologic with one of the largest live rooms in the Caribbean. Holders Season has sponsored and was responsible for creating "The Holders Band" Barbados's first super group.
Holders Season hosted a Luciano Pavarotti concert with the Royal Philamonic Orchestra. Holders Season will, in March 1999, produce Shakespeare's The Tempest with David Calder in the role of Prospero. This will be the first production of The Caribbean Tempest incorporating music from the Caribbean.
Holders Season has now become a center of the arts in Barbados. Musicians, actors, producers and engineers all working year round on future events and recordings.
