Buddha's BirthdayBuddha's Birthday

The Festival of Buddha’s birthday is observed on the eighth day of the Fourth Moon. Legend has it that at the moment of Buddha's birth, nine dragons spat on the water. Buddha is the sacred name given to a man called Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of the Buddhist religion.

The birthday of Buddha is a celebration of great reverence through out China in various Buddhist temples. Worshippers show their devotion throughout the day by bathing Buddha's statue. Enjoy sumptuous Chinese vegetarian dishes.

Confuscius's Birthday

Confucius's Birthday is celebrated reverently by devout followers in china. Confuscius was one of China's most influential philosophers; his ethics stress self-enlightenment through the Five Virtues of charity, justice, propriety, wisdom and loyalty.

Moon FestivalKung Chiu was born about 551 B.C. in northern China in what is now Shantung. Known by the Chinese as Kung Fu Tzu (Grand Master Kung), and westernized into the name Confucius he was the first private teacher in China and the first to devote his whole life to teaching. His teachings were both political and social in nature and strongly supported the institutions that provided society with order-family, hierarchy, and seniority. He believed that each person had a place and a part to perform within the society and that the individuals were the masters of their own destinies, and that all people were to be respected. Confucius was known as the "Great Sage" and his philosophical teachings influenced China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.


Moon Festival

Moon festival is celebrated during the full Moon in September. It is the harvest festival of Hong Kong and one of the biggest of the Chinese festivals. It originated from the ancient tradition of making offerings and gifts to the sun in spring and to the moon in autumn. This is a time for families to get together and people often travel long distances to be with their loved ones.

 

Kite FestivalKite Festival

The kite festival is celebrated on September 9th the ninth day of the ninth moon. According to the legend about 200 B.C. an inventive dwarf named Han Shin constructed the first kite ever to be seen in the skies of China. Han Shin used this kite in a resourceful way to win a battle for his country. Today kites fill the sky from morning to nightfall. It’s fun to watch the antics of the kites as they attempt to be as clever as Han Shin. Colorful kites, some with moving parts, try to cut each other's kite strings and prove the superiority of their kite.


National Day of China

The National Day of china is celebrated on October 1st. In October 1911 the followers of Sun Yat-sen defeated the Manchu dynasty in an almost bloodless rebellion. They first looked to the West for a democratic form of government but later turned toward Russian Marxism or commonly known as communism. Under the communist government, the country is officially atheist, but the religious sects of Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism still exist.

The Mid Autumn Moon festival ranks second only to the Spring Festival, where the day is set aside to pay respects to the moon. Traditionally, children carry the lanterns and light the way for their elders.
