Festivals and Events of the Turks and Caicos Islands

 A number of holidays are celebrated at the Turks & Caicos Islands. Often these holidays are celebrated on beaches in particular throughout the Islands.

New Years Day
Jan 1st. Celebrated with the Junakoo Jump Up and Carnival.

Commonwealth Day
Observed on the Monday nearest the 12th of March

Good Friday
Celebrated on Friday prior to Easter

Easter Monday
Celebrated on the Monday after Easter

National Heroes Day
Observed on the last Monday in May in honor of the First Chief Minister, The late Hon J.A.G.S. McCartney.

Queens Official Birthday
Observed mid June

Emancipation Day
Celebrated on the first of August. This holiday commemorates the freedom of the slaves. Freedom from slavery was declared from Oddfellows Lodge in Grand Turk in 1834.

National Youth Day
Celebrated on the last Friday of September for the young people of the islands.

Columbus Day
Celebrated on the Monday nearest the 10th of October, this holiday
Commemorates Christopher Columbus’ discovery of TCI in 1492. He is believed to have landed on Grand Turk.

International Human Rights Day
Observed on the October 24th similar to Independence Day in the USA.

Christmas Day
December 25th

Boxing Day
December 26th. On this day an annual Church Fair takes place at the Grand Turk Methodist Church.
