Dubai Desert Classic 2009

Dubai brings in the top ranking golfers and golfing fans to a single platform at Dubai Desert Classic every year. 2009 will mark the 20th Anniversary of the Dubai Desert Classic to be held January 26th February 1st at the Emirates Golf Club.

Known as the "crown jewel" of the European Tour's three-stop Desert Swing, the event commonly attracts a stellar cast including world's number one Tiger Woods, Henrik Stenson, Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia and many others from the Top 50 in the World Golf Rankings.

Last year, Tiger Woods became only the second player after Ernie Els (1994, 2002, and 2005) to win the Dubai Desert Classic more than once. A blistering back-nine 31 in the final round secured victory for Woods as he extended his worldwide winning streak to five events.

As many as 55,606 fans turned up during the Classic week, beating the previous best of 49,633 in 2006. The final day recorded the best turn out with 13,412 people coming to the venue to watch the proceedings despite a sandstorm which picked up steam later in the afternoon.

Promoted and organised by 'golf in DUBAI,' the tournament also turned out to be a big hit with golfing fans from all over the world. The event offer the absolute best experience for spectators, sponsors and out-of-town guests who want to see the best players in the world up close and personal. The event attracts a high-profile sponsorship line up too.
