A Christmas celebration, Nine mornings, starts on 15 December. For these nine mornings before Christmas, people parade through the streets of the capital city of Kingstown before dawn. Bicycle races, string band serenades and carolling are an integral part of these unique celebrations. The most recent addition has been the organised dances held in St Vincent's dance halls on each of these nine mornings. |
Big Drum Festival is held in the month of May on Union Island. This event marks the end of the dry season. It culminates in the Big Drum Dance that has been derived from African and French traditions. This dance is also performed on other occasions like weddings, boat launchings and even in times of disaster.
