Genesis of Bahamas International Film Festival
An annual event, the Bahamas International Film Festival was found by Leslie Vanderpool in 2004. The film festival takes place during early December every year.
A non-profit organization, the BIFF, was conceived with the intention of rendering support to the Bahamian film producers. The event is a stage to showcase the talent of Bahamian cinema to the world, so that celebrities from across the world acknowledge their talents and come back to these people for shooting their movies in Bahamas.
Along with this, BIFF also offers a nicely carved cultural experience, numerous educational programmes as well as forums which act as critical factors for exploring various dimensions of cinema.
Events
BIFF showcases movies belonging to various genres including short movies, features, documentaries as well as those belonging to the genre of animation. Movies are screened under categories like World Cinema and Caribbean Spotlight, which encourage both Caribbean-based and Caribbean-born filmmakers to display their movies. The movies which are screened under the above cited categories are nominated for Grand Jury prize, which is sponsored by Chopard.
