Paphos, a historic holiday town on the west coast of Cyprus, is divided into two parts. The old town, Kato Paphos dotted with the hotels and restaurants and the newer town, Kitima built 3 km over the hill. Paphos is a heritage town listed as the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. During the historic period of the ancient Greeks and the Romans, it was the prosperous capital of Cyprus. |
In the contemporary times, the Anthestiria Flower Festival in Cyprus has a theme similar to that of the ancient feasts. The word ‘Anthestiria’ is derived from the Greek word ‘anthos’ meaning flower. During the Anthestiria Flower Festival, a parade of flower is taken out with people carrying beautiful, vibrant, aromatic and fresh flowers down the Poseidon Avenue and fills the old harbor, Kato Paphos of Paphos.
If you visit Cyprus, during the Anthestiria Flower Festival, make sure to be a part of the colorful celebration. A visit to the Troödos Mountains, where the picturesque view of the blue skies and hillsides full of blooming poppies, gladioli, daisies and blossoming trees is a sight to behold and cherish life long.
