FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), one of the most popular swimming championships in the world will begin its 10th edition this time in Dubai in full grandeur. The championship is been conducted every two years. Last year it was held in Manchester.
Participants from over 130 countries are expected to take part in this grant event.
What is FINA?
FINA, the Fédération Internationale de Natation, is the world governing body for the five aquatic disciplines of swimming, water polo, diving, open water swimming and synchronised swimming. The main objectives of FINA include promoting development of swimming across the world, encouraging international relations and setting rules to conduct competitions. FINA has formed separate panels for addressing various needs like health and safety of the athletes, doping by the participants etc.. for its well-functioning.
Attractions
Dubai municipality is constructing a 15,000- seater sports venue at the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex. This facility will prove to be one of the massive and advanced compared to rest of the world with a 50m competition pool, a 25m dive pool, and a 50m warm up pool with a horseshoe-shaped seating bowl in the main arena. The project covers an area of over 24 hectares with the building space of 56,031 sq metres. On completion of the event the sports venue will be opened for indoor sports.
There is a good news for all those hungry stomachs. Food stalls will be eructed on the premise.
Other major events hosted by Dubai include Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships and the Dubai Desert Classic golf championships.

- Freestyle: 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m and 1,500m
- Backstroke: 50m, 100m and 200m
- Breaststroke: 50m, 100m and 200m
- Butterfly: 50m, 100m and 200m
- Individual Medley: 50m, 100m and 200m
- Relays: 4×100 m freestyle, 4×200 m freestyle and 4×100 m medley
