Getting married in Grenada

Getting married in Grenada

If you have in mind a fairytale wedding, Grenada, one of the world’s true paradise islands, is the prefect destination to realize your dream. You have the option to get married on a treasure island against a backdrop of palm-fringed white sand, on a sailboat over a turquoise sea sparkling behind you, or in picturesque beach decorated with scented exotic tropical flowers.

Turn your dreams in reality, as it’s fairly less cumbersome to get married in Grenada. No blood or medical tests are required for marriages in Grenada.

Types of wedding

There are two types of wedding options available to you.

Marriage Officer – you can choose a civil ceremony conducted by a Magistrate of the court as well as religious ceremonies conducted by a choice of ministers. All ministers can offer a non-denominational ceremony.

Ceremony Wording - Couples may request a copy of the ceremony wording to view prior to their wedding day or indeed compose your own vows. The Magistrates offer a set ceremony; however, the ministers can personalize your ceremony wording to suit your needs.

Legal requirements

The law In Grenada requires the visitors to stay on the island for a minimum of 3 days inclusive of weekends and public holidays before applying for a licence. On the third day, an application for a Marriage Licence is made in person at the Office of the Prime Minister and the necessary stamp duty and licence fees are paid. Generally, the licence is ready within 2 working days. However, it may take slightly longer if either partner is divorced, as documents must then be sent to the Ministry of Legal Affairs.

Documentation Required

All documents must be in English. If the originals are in another language, they must be translated into English and certified
