Carpet Oasis

One of the popular shopping spots during the Dubai Shopping Festival is the Carpet Oasis. The exhibition showcases thousands of unique, exclusive, handmade, oriental and Persian carpets and rugs from around the globe, all under one roof. The Carpet Oasis also offers visitors a large collection of antique souvenirs and is regularly hosted at the Dubai Airport Expo,

There is a giant carpet market at the Dubai Airport Expo as part of the month long Dubai Shopping Festival. The Carpet Oasis will showcase a rich collection of carpets from Iraq, Uzbekistan, China, Turkmenistan, Iran, Pakistan, India and the UAE, giving buyers a chance to choose from more than 100,000 exquisite hand-made carpets with bargain prices.

Dubai is a fantastic place to buy carpets, as traders from Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan converge in this shopping Mecca, selling their wares for anything from a few hundred to thousands of Dirhams. Sales at Carpet Oasis, a much sought after venue for carpets and antiques during DSF 2006-2007, reached a monumental Dh58 million, with Dh37 million worth of business conducted between merchants. The remaining Dh21 million accounted for carpets and antiques bought by DSF shoppers. An estimated 15,000 shoppers visited the Carpet Oasis.

Covering a massive area of 12,000 square metres, the venue housed around 150,000 carpets, ranging from the exquisite to the rarest. The total value of the entire stock reached an astonishing Dh1 billion with 72 exhibitors from all over the world also displaying antiques. The main exhibitors were from within the UAE, Iran, China, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan.

A majority of the visitors to the Carpet Oasis comprised of Arabs, followed by a considerable number from Iran, India, Pakistan, and the Philippines. Compared to the last edition, a remarkable number of visitors from Europe also made it to the exhibition.

The 13th edition of Dubai Shopping Festival will be held from January 24, 2008 to February 24. The Carpet Oasis is one of DSF's most sought after destinations, and this year the Dubai Ports, Customs and Freezone Authority will make it a bigger success than ever through its Carpet Oasis Committee.
