 | The city of Lahore is the heart and soul of Pakistan. It is famous for its hospitality and none the less Food! Lahore offers a number of food specialties found only in Lahore and Lahore alone, it also provides a perfect ambience that is true to Lahore’s culture, warmth and liveliness. In order to preserve the food culture of Lahore the Government of Pakistan has taken strategic steps to standardize and increase the flux of tourism, through the food industry of Lahore, by supporting and boasting the “Food Street Lahore”. |
The Food Street is basically a none descript kind of street, not very long, off Laxmi Chowk of Lahore. It comprises of a bunch of street side restaurants, juice & milk shops and sweet shops. The shops are all bunched together on this short stretch of a street which has now been given the official name of Food Street. During the day it is just another busy street in Laxmi Chowks bustling with traffic, humans, the hues and the cries of the day to day life of the interior Lahore, but as the sun set, the street metamorphoses into vivid world with Al-Fresco styled dining. Within minutes as the sun sets the tables, and the street-side pots and pans come out, people start pouring in as the flames of the massive stoves rise high.
Architecturally the street exhibits the same traditional architecture and design, except for the lightening that are designed to illuminate the decorated rooftops of every house. The traditional Kashmiri-Persian architecture can still be seen, used extensively in buildings surrounding the food street.
The food offered at the food street is typically local Lahore style food, including Hareesa, Chicken Tikka, Biryani, Seekh Kabab, Churgah (roasted Chicken), Qawah, Subz Chai (Green Tea) and lassi.
One simply cannot miss going to the food street for at least once in Lahore. It is the ultimate place to dine out amidst the true Lahori culture. Apart from the marvelous food, it is the feel, the sense, the indulgence, the shops, the well-preserved buildings and the real sights and sounds surrounding the food street that makes it so special. | |
