Getting married in Saba

Getting married in the unspoiled locales of Saba is an absolutely fabulous idea to mark the most important day of life as most unforgettable as well. Virgin beauty, turquoise waters and unexplored areas are the prefect venue for a tranquil wedding and a romantic honeymoon. Getting married in Saba is very simple if you follow the rules properly.


According to Saba’s civil code, registration of the marriage must be done. A letter requesting permission to be married on the island addressed to the Lt. Governor of Saba should be sent in advance in order to secure a date and obtain all of the necessary information. The address for sending the request letter is:

Soon after the registration, the notification should be done for which both parties must submit the following certificates:

  • Original birth certificate mentioning the names of the parents (also whether the parents are living or deceased)
  • Maiden names of ‘mothers’ is also necessary
  • Birth certificate
  • Original proof of ‘Single’ status not older than 6 months
  • If previously married, an original entry of dissolution of marriage is required (Divorce decree)
  • Copy of passport
  • Request to be married, written or in person to Civil Registrar
  • If you want to get married somewhere other than the Government Building, then a written request to the Lt. Governor

The witnesses are required for the wedding and they must be the residents of the Netherlands Antilles. If marriage is to take place inside the Court Room at the Government Building, then two witnesses are needed. If it will take place outside of the Government Building, then six witnesses are needed. Copies of each witness' Dutch identification card or if of Dutch Nationality, a copy of Passport must be submitted.


Notification of marriage of residents must take place in person during office hours at the Census Office Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 11:00 am & 13:00 pm and 15:00 pm. Non-residents not living on Saba can submit a written notification to the addressed mentioned below:

There should be a time span of minimum of 3 weeks between the date of notification of marriage and solemnization of marriage. All documents, requests and information listed has to be sent a month before marriage date to the Census Office.
